Jeannette (54), was shot when robbers entered their home in Lynnwood, Pretoria, shouted and then blindly fired in their direction. Jeannette was hit where she sat next to her husband, Alex Grobler (62), and watched television.
"They kept asking: 'Where's the guns, where's the money?'. I said I didn't have anything. I always tell people the only weapon I have is a bread knife," said Mr. Grobler said yesterday.
The answer was not good enough. The shot that was initially fired, hit Jeanette in the thigh, but the robbers still dragged her through the house.
After the robbers fled in the couple's car, Mr. Grobler untied himself. Meanwhile, his wife had called her mother and a neighbor, whose son is a police member. Jeanette collapsed in the kitchen shortly before the police arrived. Mr. Grobler and his mother-in-law, who had arrived in the meantime, applied emergency treatment to no avail.
