In late August 1940 she sailed from Liverpool to Rio de Janeiro with Vera Bondy (Gabriele's grand niece), Jana Kafka (Bruno Kafka's widow), and Jana's son Alexander Kafka.

In late November 1940 she sailed from Rio de Janeiro to NYC with her son Francis (formerly Franz) and his wife Alice. Gabriele was heading for Rochester, NY, where her daughter and son-in-law Helen and Otto Falton (formerly Faltitschek) lived.

At Lakeview Cemetery in Groveland, NY, where she is buried, she shares a headstone with Otto Falton.
