Jenkins owned woolen mills on the Blue River in Kennard, Indiana (Wayne Township). The town grew around his mills and was named after him. During the Civil War the mills produced blue wool which was sold to the Union Army. For more information on Jenkins see :Biographical Memories of Henry County, Indiana" by B. F. Bowen.
Jenkins and Ruth were married in a civil ceremony and not a Quaker ceremony and were disciplined for this.
