"I loved seeing a photo of Great Uncle Saul (Schojl); I've never seen one before. My father, Isadore claims that he remembered him even though he was only three years old (the sisters, Dora & Jenny lived within a short walking distance of one another). Dora was the midwife at my father's birth on 2/18/1911). The year 1914 was a bad one for the Letter/Latter family: - the death of young Esther, then the death of Saul (Schojl), & the start of World War I, which cut everyone off from the extended family back in Europe."

Jennie Newman (Latter) died at a very young age, one day following the birth of her last child, Charles Newman. A 'shidach' (arranged marriage) was made between her widower husband, Elias R. Newman and the widow Rebecca Shapiro (Cohen) using a 'shadchen (matchmaker). Rebecca could not bear children of her own and was childless. The purpose of this arranged marriage was for Rebecca (2nd wife of Elias) to raise the Newman children.
