About Jens Kjetilsson Venaas
From Telesoga, November 2016 "North Dakota Lawmen" by Carol Johnson. story about great-grandson Stener Wenaas family. Owners of Venås, a prosperous estate situated on top of a high hill with a view of the Seljordvatn (lake). They were wealthy, renting out 13 husman's places. Jens broke his neck after a fight with three men from Aust-bygde, so from that time forward he walked with his head forward. The fight presumably started with the men remarking that Jens did not have the high road to heaven just because he was the parish priest's partner in a flour mill. Guro was a short, stout woman capable of making tasty ale. During this time the Danish King required the Norwegian farmers to house, feed and provide ale to the Danish soldiers. When Guro died, Jen's toasted her with ale she had made.
