Jeremiah Belk was born by 1793 in SC, probably in the Cheraw Dis., was a son of William and possibly a Grson of John, Rev. soldier from SC (DAR). Jeremiah moved to Smith Co. around 1820 and at some time bought land in Sullivan's Bend. He had married Jane Allen by 1827. Jane was the daughter of James (1763-1822) and Anne (1773-1848). James Allen operated a ferry across the Cumberland River near Carthage. Jane Belk is buried near the Green Valley Church in Horseshoe Bend, along with her parents and sister Margaret (May 1795-30 Oct 1831). Jeremiah was a farmer, blacksmith and minister of the Gospel. He and Jane had at least 8 children.
