Biography

Jeremiah Bumstead immigrated to New England as a child during the Puritan Great Migration (1621-1640).
Jeremiah/Jeremy Bumstead was baptized at St. James Parish, Bury St. Edmund's, Suffolk England on November 13, 1636, son of Thomas and Susan (___) Bumstead. [1]

Jeremiah came to New England with his parents, Thomas and Susanna, and brother Thomas by July, 1640. [2]

His father Thomas Bumstead, brazier of Boston, wrote his will on May 25, 1677, and it was proved on August 4, 1677. In it he names among others, his son Jeremy. [3]

1690: May 15: Made a Freeman at Boston. [4]
1698: April 30: Jeremiah Bumstead, joiner of Boston, and his siblings deeded their interest in the dwelling house and land that had belonged to their father Thomas, to his sister Hannah's son Alexander Sherrer and her son-in-law Richard Green. [5]
Jeremiah married first, Anna/Hannah Odlin by 1664, as their first child was born in November that year. Hannah was baptized at Boston, Massachusetts on October 9, 1643, aged 8 days, daughter of John and Margaret (___) Odlin. [6] [1]

John and Margaret deeded land to Hannah and Jeremiah Bumstead, indicating the land was for 'love and affection of my son Jeremiah Bumstead'. [6] [1]

His wife Hannah died about 1671/2. Jeremiah then married Sarah Blanchard, their first child being born in 1674. [6] Sarah was the daughter of Thomas Blanchard and Anne Rolfe. [1]

In Hannah's father John Odlin's will, written on March 4, 1684/4, John left a bequest to his grandchild Hannah Bumstead. [6] [7]

Jeremiah died on February 27, 1709, aged 72. [8]
