About Jeremiah Wilkinson, Sr.

Jeremiah Wilkinson, Sr.

Jeremiah was the son of John Wilkinson (1654–1708) & Deborah Whipple (1670–1748)

Jeremiah Wilkinson was a man of strong mind, and rather stubborn disposition. Not having enjoyed the benefits of an education, he, as is too often the case, set a light value upon, mental improvement, and made a merit of despising the politer accomplishments. He usually attended the Friends' meetings, being more attached to their society than to any other religious Sect, yet was never acknowledged by them as a regular member of their community.

In early life he married a young woman of the name of Amy Whipple, by whom he had twelve children, six sons and six daughters. Jemima, to her exclusively, is this family indebted for the celebrity of its name.
