About Jerome White
This may or may not be the same Jerome White who was Surveyor-General in Maryland, 1664-1670. That Jerome White arrived in 1661, already with high connections to prominent people in the Maryland government, and left for England quite abruptly in 1670 for reasons which he never explained and which must be assumed to be personal.
It appears that the Jerome White who was the son of Sir Richard White and Lady Catherine Weston was involved in some capacity with arranging the marriage of Mary of Modena to James, Duke of York (afterwards James II of England) in 1673. He is said to have been presented with a valuable emerald for his services, which he willed to his sister Frances (the one who later married John Petre) in 1674. He may, or may not, have been a Catholic priest, like his uncles Thomas "Blacklow" and namesake Jerome White, OSB.
