About Jesse Halfbreed
Jesse was a Cherokee man
Biography
Jesse was born in 1800. He was the son of Big Halfbreed and Gua-li-uka Crittenden. He fathered ten children by two women, Alkinneh Downing and Jennie Fields. According to Emmet Starr, the children were Margaret, Sarah, Stand, Tiana, Melvina, Mary, Eliza, Richard, Elizabeth, and James. [1] Two daughters, Margaret and Betsy, filed Eastern Cherokee applications in 1906; each listed a slightly different set of children, named only Alkinneh as their mother, and gave different death dates for their father. The 1851 Drennan Roll lists Alkinneh with seven children. [2] The family was Removed to Indian Territory over the Trail of Tears. According to daughter Margaret, Jesse died October 15, 1842. [3]
