About Jesse C. Penney

Obituary "Middletown Times-Press 14 Dec. 1891 Mon pg. 7: "Jesse C. Penney" Mr. Jesse C. Penney, one of the oldest residents of this city, died at 4 a.m. today at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Martin B. Cox, on Mill street, aged 90 years. He had been feeble for some time, having been scarcely out of his room since last May. The deceased was born on Long Island, but removed to Orange county with his parents when six months old. They settled on a farm in town of Mt. Hope and there the deceased always lived until four years ago when his wife dying he removed here and made his home. His wife was Elizabeth Montgomery, Four children survive their parents as follows: Stephen S. Penney, of Port Jervis; Robert M. Penney, of Goshen; Mrs. Anna Green, who lives with Mrs. Cox, and Mrs. Sophia W., wife of Martin B. Cox, where the venerable getleman died. He was a member of the old yellow Congregational Church which stood near Mt. Hope village until 40 years ago when it was torn down. The he attended the Presbyterian Church there. The funeral will be held tomorrow at Mrs. Cox's. Burial will be at the Plains Cemetery near Otisville."
