Jesse B. Tittsworth

Jesse B. Titsworth/Tittsworth 1795 Tn-1868 IL

Jesse Tittsworth was born on Nov. 19, 1795 in Tennessee (Sullivan Co.?) The first known record of him in Sullivan Co. Tn was in 1818 at about the age of 23. He was the overseer of the Rotherwood Plantation owned by the Ross family. He was in charge of the Blacksmithing, farming and timbering operations on the plantation. Jesse is also on a Power of Attorney record in Sullivan Co Tn in 1820 (Land deeds). Jesse married Nancy Pryor in Sullivan Co. about 1820, possibly a daughter of the owner of the nearby Pryor Plantation. Jesse was on a Sullivan Co. land deed in 1824 as a chain bearer on a 35 acre land survey for a Thomas Titsworth (possibly his bro. or dad?) Jesse and his family moved to McMinn Co. Tn about 1825 and finally to Pike co IL in 1831. Nancy (Pryor) Titsworth's brother John Pryor and family are living next door to them in Pike co Illinois in 1850.

Jesse's oldest child, Mary Ann b. 1822 was the only one of his 7 children born in Sullivan Co. Tn.

Mary Ann Tittsworth married Moses Easley, also a native of Sullivan Co. Tn in 1844 in Pike Co. IL. Their children were Thomas L, Sarah, William, James, Mary, Nancy and Laura.

Jesse and Nancy Tittsworth had 3 children in McMinn Co Tn., Franklin b. 1826, Maria b. about 1828, and Sarah b. about 1830.

Franklin Tittsworth married Adaline Browning in Pike Co IL in 1853 and they had 7 children, Thomas, Charles, Albert, Miruim, Luther, Franklin and Frederick.

Maria Tittsworth married William Anderson in Pike Co IL in 1847. Their children were Caroline, Sarah, Millard and Edgar.

Sarah Tittsworth married Joseph Forman/Foreman in 1851 Pike Co. IL Their children were Mary, Caroline, William, Charles, Franklin, Harvey and Florence. This family lived next door to her parents in 1860 (hard to read-- looks like Soaman--but should say Forman; family names ages and places of birth match exactly) Their son Harvey was born in PIke co IL in Oct. of 1868---just 6 months after Sarah's father died. Sometime in the next 2 years Sarah's family moved to Indian Creek, Pike Co Missouri by 1870 and later to May Day, Riley Co, Kansas by 1880.

Jesse's last 3 children were all born in Pike Co., IL. Mirium Nancy 1832, Margaret 1836 and Malinda 1837.

Miruim Tittsworth married William Middleton in 1852 in Pike Co. IL. They had 9 children--Franklin, William, Eugene, Ella, Hattie, Alfred, Idella, Leroy and Clifton. Wm and Mirium were headed to California when their first child Franklin was born in Iowa. They lived in Siskiyou Co., Yreka California in 1860. By 1870 they had moved to Mendocino Co Ca, but were in Gila Co. Arizona on the 1880 census where they remained.

Margaret Tittsworth married Nathan Toothaker in 1856 in Pike Co IL. They had 6 children--Sarah A., Louella, Nancy L., Edward, Miriam V., and Franklin B. They were in Pike co IL until about 1869, but were in Howard Co. Ks in 1870. Margaret died about before 1876 (Ks?) and Nathan moves back to Pike Co IL by 1880 and remarries. Son Edward marries in IL but later moves to Van Buren, Arkansas.

Malinda Titsworth is the only child of Jesse's that dies young (1841--3 4 yrs)

I believe Jesse to be the son of Thomas A. Titsworth 1763 Va--1853 Sullivan Co Tn. I have found no actual proof other than the naming patterns in the family--ie Thomas, Lilburn, Maryann, Malinda etc. Jesse named a daughter Maryann and one Malinda. His oldest grandchild was named Thomas Lilburn another was named Thomas Jesse.

Lilburn b. 1800/1810 (m. Barbara Roller) died between 1832--1837

Mary Ann b. 1800/1810 (m. Sanford Bridwell) died pre 1840

Jonathan b. 1806 m. Nancy________ cannot locate him or family ;after 1850????

Malinda b. 1812 (m. James Henry Cleek Jr) died (Overton Co Tn??)
