Dr. Thompson is considered to be the first M.D. to practice in the Ind.Territory; he was the doctor accompanying the Cherokee wagon trains in the 49'ers gold rush to Calif.where he had to start a Cholera camp for many; (Wm.Goss died; Brice Martin died ;his brother Gabriel Martin had already died at Donner Spring) Along with his brothers he joined Stand Watie's troops in the Civil War. He was captured early and forced to serve as physician to Union troops at Fort Gibson. Husb. of Mary Jane Taylor. Son of James Allen & Martha Lynch Thompson. Father of 7 ch.
