Jo Ann Kallenborn was born June 6, 1925, in Birmingham, Alabama. She graduated from Samford University with a degree in journalism. At Samford, she was President of Phi Mu Sorority, President of the Pan Hellenic Council, Vice President of the Interfraternity Sorority Council, a member of Who's Who Among American Colleges and Universities and Assistant Editor of the campus newspaper. She was a writer for the Birmingham News and Southern Living Magazine. She was a friend of famous folk artist Minnie Evans and promoted Minnie Evans' career throughout the country. She wrote many articles about the life of Minnie Evans, was featured in various video tributes, gave talks and attended art openings. The Jo Kallenborn collection of Minnie Evans paintings resides in the Ogden Museum of Southern Art in New Orleans. She lived in Wilmington, NC for 43 years and was a member of St. Matthews Lutheran Church for all of those years.
She was the wife of John Kallenborn, Jr. who predeceased her. She is survived by her son John Kallenborn, III and his wife Diane ("Boo"); her daughter Beth Linn and her husband Mike and three grandchildren, Will, Clayton and Ann Kallenborn.
A graveside service will be held at 3 PM on Saturday, May 21 at Oleander Memorial Gardens.
