Joakim Christian Holkestad

J. C. Holkestad, 89, formerly of Fargo, died Monday, Oct. 26, at Long Beach, Calif. The funeral was Saturday in Immanuel Lutheran Church at Abercrombie, N.D.

Mr. Holkestad, who operated Jim’s Cash Grocery in Fargo for many years, was born at Fort Ransom, N.D., Aug. 24, 1881, and operated a general store at Abercrombie before coming to Fargo in 1933. He left Fargo in 1947 to spend winters in California and the summer months in this area.

His wife, the former Helen Starnd, died in 1954. He leaves three sons and two daughters, Norman, Fargo; Harold, Westminster, Calif.; Herbert, Anaheim, Calif.; Mrs. Clayton (Ardis) Beaton, Huntington Beach, Calif.; Mrs. Oscar (Harriet) Fredrickson, Renville, Minn.; a brother, Ragnvald, Valley City, N.D.; a sister, Mrs. Louis (Mary) Thorson, a resident in a nursing home in Fargo, and seven grandchildren.
