About Joan Raimond Leon van Voorthuijsen
Joan Raimond Leon van Voorthuijsen was Joan's elder son. I was told that his mother's name may have been Nell Egertonwood, and that she was a native of Singapore. JRL moved to the Netherlands and stayed for some time with his father Joan's younger brother Frederik Thomas in the Betuwe, where Frederik Thomas was a flower grower.
JRL never married, had no off-spring and died in the the town of Utrecht, Netherlands, in 1904 at age 47.
His uncle Frederik Thomas had a son Joan who emigrated to the U.S. and settled in Washington state. He has no blood relatives, but I spoke some years ago to an elderly lady named Frida van Voorthuysen who lived on an Island near Seattle. She told me she was going blind. She called Joan Joe and had been married to Joan's adoptive son Fred. They had no children. A sister of Joan that emigrated with him apparently does have descendants, one of whom was said to be (currently, ca 1990) a female attorney in Portland, OR.
