Note this account in the Wentworth Genealogy is not correct. It was written by Joseph Lemuel Chester and published in NEHGR before being included in the book. But Chester took it from an unreliable source.

  • 2. John, who married Alice, daughter of heir of John Bissett, Esq., of North Elmsall, in Yorkshire, and thus acquired that important estate. He died, however, without at least surviving issue, and bequeathed that estate to his nephew John, the younger son of his elder brother William of whom hereafter. Their mother Dionysia died shortly after the birth of her younger son John, and their father William married, secondly, Lucy daugher of Sir Adam Newmarch, but had no issue by her; and himself died in 1295, in the lifetime of his father, and only seven years after his first marriage. On his father's death, in 1308-9, the family estate, reverted to his eldest son--
  • XI. Sir William Wentworth, of Wentworth-Woodhouse, who married Isabel, daughter and co-heir of William Pollington, Esq., of Pollington, in Yorkshire, (son and heir of Sir Thomas Pollington, Kt.), by whom he had also two sons, viz;--

    • 2. John, of whom hereafter. The eldest son William was afterwards knighted, and continued the direct line of the famly of Wentworth-Woodhouse.

  • Joan Le Tyes living 1313 m. John 2nd son of W. Wentworth of Woodhouse ch; John Wentworth of Elmsall. Joan was dau. of Richard le Tyes, living 1318, Lord of Woodsome, Lede & Farnley Tyas and Alice, Daur. & coh. of Ric. de Tankersley, living 1312. They had another dau. Constance le Tyes living 1317 who m. Henry le Rockley and had issue Robert le Rockley.
  • Richard Tyas was son of Henry le Tyes who was living 1270 (more probably named Richard de Tyes) and Elena, daur. & coh. of Alexander de Neville of Mirfield. Their other children were Baldwin le Tyes, living 1322; Robert le Tyes, Rector of Tankersley, ob. 1329; Francis le Tyes, living 1323 and 1369, who had issue Baldwin le Tyes; John le Tyes, Lord of Slaithwaite, living 1315 and had issue Margaret le Tyes, daughter and heiress. She married Sir John de Bilingay, and was a widow in 1362. In 1352 she granted Slaithwaite to Richard de Biron.
  • Henry or Richard de Tyes was son of Sir Francis le Tyes, Knt., was living 1266 & buried at Lede. Francis le Tyes, Knt. was son of Sir Baldwin Teutonicus Vel Ties, living in 1219 & 1235, Lord of Lede & Farnley, and buried at Lede and Margery, daughter of Hugh Elland of Elland, living 1235, buried at Lede Chapel, in the parish of Ryther, Margaret Elland was 1st m. to Gilbert de Notton, and had issue Roger Le Notton, living 1235. other children of Francis and Margery were Sir John le Tyes, Knt. who had issue Sir Everard le Tyes.; Joan le Tyes, married 1st to Robt. de Hoyland, Knt. of High Hoyland and 2nd to John de Biron.
  • Sir Baldwin Teutonicus Vel Ties was son of Teutonicus (Tyas) Ties, his other children were Henricus Teutonicus, to whom Roger de Laci granted the manor of Slaithwaite between 1195 and 1211.
