About Joan of Strathbogie
July 24, 1326—Joan Comyn of Badenoch, Countess of Atholl, died. She was the daughter of John, “the Red” Comyn, Lord of Badenoch and Joanna de Valence, who was a great-granddaughter of William the Marshal. The Red Comyn was murdered by Robert the Bruce. Joan married David de Strathbogie, the 4th Earl of Atholl. David submitted to King Edward in 1307 and was in English service until about 1312 when he joined King Robert I. The annals record that he argued with Edward Bruce about the way Edward treated his wife who was David’s sister.
