About Joanah Amelia Poston
GEDCOM Note
Joanna Alameda was born December 14, 1835 in Tn, the daughter of Robert G. and Elizabeth Lowrie. The Lowrie family had left their native Tn and started west as did so many of the pioneers. They were in Mississippi for two years where a son, George, was born. At last they were in Rusk Co at Henderson, Texas where they farmed and perhaps spent their remaining years. In 1899, the United States established a pension for the Confederate soldiers and Joanna Alameda, being a widowed wife of a Confederate soldier, applied for the benefit. The pension was approved on February 9, 1900 when she was 65 years of age. She had sold her home, probably in Kaufman Co, and the cattle, horses and farming equipment except one horse and a buggy. The 1900 census of Hunt Co did not list Joanna Alameda Poston as head of a household, but she may have been in the home of her daughter, Nancy, whose married name is not known.
