About Joane Bland (Atkyns)
Joane Atkyns was the daughter of William Atkyns. She was born c. 1528 in London, England. She married Adam Bland, son of Roger/Robert Bland and had 13 children. The names of three sons have survived - Peter, Gregory and John.
One source places her death as 1596 in Virginia. The location is patently false - no white women lived in Virginia in the 1590's, which casts doubt on the date of death. She most likely died in London. Her husband was a member of a powerful London guild and was named Skinner to the Queen. Therefore, it seems most likely the family resided in London and she would have died there.
