James Langston first moved from Virginia to North Carolina, where he likely married his wife Jane. He received 150 acres on the Tarr River from his father on Dec. 25, 1760. The Granville County, North Carolina, tax list of 1768 recorded that James had one Negro slave by the name of Dina.
Around 1770, he moved to the Pendleton District. After his wife Jane passed away, James married Joannah Davis in 1778.
