C., being part of a tract of land on both sides of Tar River. Deed proven in May Term of Court, 1776. WITNESSES: Thomas Williams, George Thompson, Jr, and John Langston.

James Lanston (Langston), Esq. gave the State Oath and test for the Tar River District. He was the father of William Langston, who is listed as taking it.
On 6 May 1778, James Langston qualified as Captain, per Vol. 5, Court Minutes of Granville County, North Carolina.

James Langston first moved from Virginia to North Carolina, where he likely married his wife Jane. He received 150 acres on the Tarr River from his father on Dec. 25, 1760. The Granville County, North Carolina, tax list of 1768 recorded that James had one Negro slave by the name of Dina.
Around 1770, he moved to the Pendleton District. After his wife Jane passed away, James married Joannah Davis in 1778.
