The youngest known child of David C. and Lucinda (CAGWIN) Wilbur, Job married Alma THOMAS 13 August, 1870 at Akron Twp., Tuscola Co., MI. Of Job and Alma's five children. Ambrosia Belle "Belle" Wilbur (1871-1929, married Charles Ewing LEMLEY), Ella Maud Wilbur (1872-?, married 1. Walter GASKILL, 2. Friend J. WILLARD) and Frank Alby Wilbur (1874-1946, married Delia May PAYNE) were born in Akron Twp., Tuscola Co., MI. Daughter Mabel Wilbur (1880-1951, married 1. John David BARKER, 2. James Ward HEISHMAN) was born in Eden Twp., Mason Co., MI. The youngest, Myrtle M. Wilbur (1886-1977, married 1. John NEDERHOOD, 2. Jaby Walter DANIELS), was born in Sharp Co., Arkansas.

Job and his family lived with his parents until their deaths in early 1880. Shortly thereafter, he sold his real property in Mason Co. at a loss and the family left the Michigan for points west.

Job Wilbur served with his eldest brother, William C. Wilbur, as a Private in Co. A of the 29th Michigan Volunteer Infantry in the Civil War. (Job is listed as Joab Wilbur on the US Park Service Civil War Soldiers and Sailors System website.) Another Wilbur brother, Alanson , a Private in Co. D of the 23rd Michigan Volunteer Infantry, was killed in action in the Battle of Campbell's Station, Knox Co., TN on 16 November, 1863.

NOTE: The family surname is misspelled on Job's headstone.


Served with Company A 29th Michigan Vol. Inf. During the Civil War of 1861-65. He came out to Idaho in the early 1880s were he listed his occupation as "Rancher & Farmer" on his 1883 GAR Membership application. He was buried in Forest Cemetery in Coeur d'Alene Idaho with full military honors by the Son & Daughters of Union Veterans and by the Ladies Relief Corps.
