About Joel Doss
He served as a soldier in Dunmore's War, a 1774 expedition against the Indians on the frontier. He also served in the Revolutionary War in the 5th and 9th Virginia Regiments. He held the rank of corporal and received a pension. Sold his land in Virginia in 1804 and moved to Kentucky.

Relationship to wives:
At least one Ancestry.com public tree lists Mary Edwards as Joel Doss' wife. The sequence of children's birth years is problematic, and it may be that Edwards was an extramarital affair, or parentage incorrectly attributed to him. It is also possible that Mary Penny and Mary Edwards (who share the same approximate birth date) might be the same person.
