State of Tennessee, Sumner County - In the name of God Amen: I, William Doss of the County of Sumner and State of Tennessee, being in a weak and low station of body but in my perfect mind and memory, knowing that it is appointed for men to die, do commit my soul into the hands of God and my body to be buried at the discretion of my friends. And as touching the property whereof God has blessed me with in this world, I do dissmissed of in the following manner (viz) Into Nancy Doss, my beloved wife, is to be put in free and full possession of the plantation whereupon I now live, together with all the goods and chattles I now possess for her own use and for the benefit and necessary expenditures of my surviving family until each of them marry or come of age. Note that if my wife should marry then the plantation is to be in the care of Jacob Bohiur? and John L. Doss whom I ordain to be the sole Executors of my Estate from to rent it from year to year to the best advantage until the boys come of age, at which time the land is to be equally divided amongst my boys, and as to touching goods and chattles that may be found in my wife's possession, when she marries, is to be sold according to the law and the money arising thereof to be equally divided amongst my girls

when they come of age, and I do hereby revoke and disannul all other former Wills and Testaments, and I do ordain this to be my last Will and Testament. Given from under my hand and seal, the day and date above written in the presence of the subscribing witnesses. William Doss (Seal)

State of Tennessee, Sumner County - The last Will and Testament of William Doss dec'd was exhibited in Court for probate, and was duly proved agreeable to law by the oath of Jonathan Williams, one of the subscribing witnesses, thereto, and ordered to be recorded. Thereupon Joshua Doss, one of the Executors therein named appeared in Court, and together with Elizah Butler and David Robetson his securities entered into and acknowledged their bond to the Governor, in the sum of Two Hundred and Fifty dollars conditioned as the law directs, and took the oath of Executor prescribed by Law. Jacob Beshear the other Executor therein named, having refused to qualify and renounces as such.

A Copy Test - A. H. Douglass, Clerk of said Court.

  • No date is on this will. (Will Book 2, pages 53 & 54.)The will before was dated "Nov. Term 1826" and the will after is dated "February Term 1827." I checked a copy of the original will and the date written is 14 Feb 1819.
