About Joeseph Tiers, Jr.

As father was Joseph Tiers (Sr.), this individual would have been Joseph Tiers, Jr.; review of 1900 census seems to assign "Jr'" to Joseph Tiers III, Thus making Joseph Tiers,III actually Joseph Tiers, IV. I doubt that the family actually used the suffixes in their personal lives, thus rendering this mix-up moot. It would seem that all four were just "Joseph Tiers". If you pay attention to birth-death dates and spouses, you will be in safe territory! The family home was in Philadelphia, Ward 22, at 53 Walnut Lane. He housed his mother-in-law's bachelor brother William Lamson Preston (1837-1916) until he died. (See U.S. Census, 1910)

Joseph Tiers Sr., the assistant tresurer and board member passed away in 1935 (sic). A brother-in-law of Walter Schwartz. he was impeccably dressed in a pin striped suit and bowler hat; he usually carried a cane. His carry-over of the 19th century respectability he accentuated by trimming his white hair in long front bangs. His son Charles replaces him on the board, and his grandson, Joseph Tiers III, is still active in Proctor Silex sales.
