Johan left the town of Argental in the District of Simmern, which is about 30 km west of Mainz. He received manumission from serfdom on March 15, 1751. For this he had to pay 40. He immigrated in September 1751 on the Ship Edinburgh. Master of The Edinburgh was James Russell. Johan took the Oath of Allegiance to the King at Philadelphia on September 16, 1751. He settled in Centerville, Upper Mt. Bethel Township, Northampton County, Pennsylvania.
