About Johan von Brömssen
von Brömssen Rank: Noble Family number: 932 Adlad: 1678-06-16 Introduced: 1680-11-20 Origin: Sweden, Småland, Jönköping Preamble It has previously been stated that the family would originate from Livonia. Modern research has, however, shown that the family originates from Jönköping. The oldest known ancestor is the coppersmith elder in Jönköping, Jöran Jönsson Bröms (buried 1663). His son, the mayor of Dorpat in Livonia Johannes Bröms (died 1684), was knighted 1678 16/6 in the Headquarters in Ljungby by King Karl XI with the name von Bröms, then changed to von Brömssen. He was introduced 1680 20/11 under the current no. 932. The family was promoted in 1778 3/11 in the then re-established second class, the knight class. Two branches were occupied since 1747 at Livlands Riddarhus with the name von Broemsen, of which the older, the so-called Congata branch, is probably the end already in the early 1800s, while the younger, the so-called Samhoffska branch, lived in the Baltics and Russia before 1917. This includes the other younger branch which in 1937 30/4 regained the right of representation at the Swedish House of Knights and registers von Brömsen. Members of the younger part of this branch survive in Russia and the United States and sign up for Bremzen. The Samhoff branch was also inscribed on the Estonian Knights' House with the name von Broemsen since 1745. Copy of the original cover letter in private ownership.
