About Johann Christoffel Brodtruck/Broodryk

!BIOGRAPHY: "JOHANN CHRISTOFFEL BROODRYK (wat in Suid-Afnika ook sy van as Brodrik geteken het), het Schwarzburg in Duitsland verlaat en met die skip :Het Slot van Capelle" in 1751 hier aangekom. Hy was toe soldaat in diens van die H.O.I.K. In 1756 het hy egter burgerskap verkry en sy ambag as smid voortgesit. Op 25 September 1757 is hy in die eg verbind met Christina Stockfleth, die weduwee van Jan van Smittenburg, ‘n huwelik wat met nege kinders geseën is. Vyf van die kinders, (1) Jan Christoffe! (1758), (2) Abraham Christiaan (1761), (3) Anna Margaretha (1767), (4) Johanna Helena (1770) en (5) Jan Andries (1775) getroud met Maria Elizabeth Fourie. Die ander kinders was: (6) A!etta Christina (1760), getroud rnet Jan Bonthuijs. (7) Christiaan Wilhelm (1764), burger te Graaff-Reinet en getroud 11.10.1801 met Hester Susanna Venter. (8) Maria Elisabeth (1769), getroud met Johannes Hendrik van Ellewee. (9) Apollonia Wilhelmina (1773), getroud met Hendrik Frans Grondeler, van Basel. Abraham Christiaan Broodryk is die pos van voorleser in die Swartland aangebied. In 1804 is hy aangestel om aan die begin van 1805 as voorleser en onderwyser in diens te tree. hy het vir neëntien en ‘n half jaar onderwys gegee, toe hy op 20 Junie 1817 oorlede is. hy het ongetwyfeld veel vir die onderwys gedoen. Een van die bekendstes onder die latere afstammelinge was Jacobus Johannes Broodryk, lektor in Elokusie en Dramatiese Kuns aan die Normaalkol in Bloemfon- tein, asook stigter en voorsitter van Afrikaanse en Engelse toneelverenigings".
