GRAAFF JOHANN JüRGEN (S). - Dornassenheim. • 28.2.1734, son of Johann Conrad Gräff and Catharina Huther (W. Schmidt, p. 151). Arr. 1761 as so., mason 1761-66, b. 1766. Resident at Stellenbosch (1770), later (1794) in the district of Graaff-Reinet. ~ Elsie, also called Elsie Kriel. 11 children (2 sons, Willem, Johannes Jürgen and a daughter, Elisabeth not mentioned in G.R.). His widow died 1822 on the “Leningsplaas (loan-farm) Boemendaal,” dist. Graaff-Reinet and left the following children:

(GMR 1761-66; Rq. 1766: 62; Test. CJ1184: 25; Stellenbosch Arch., vol. 660:8; Inv. O.C. 48: 36; G.R. nr. 141.) Among the baptised bastards of Graaff-Reinet (J 144 under 1799) are mentioned Joseph Fritz ~ Alberta Catharina Graaff, David Fritz ~Elsje Elisabeth Graaff.
In a letter of July 10, 1800 (Letters from Individuals from Graaff-Reinet), Graaff declared i.a. that he had “en wagen die 'k niet gebruyken kan, en 9 ossen waarvan 5 geen tanden in haar bek hebben, een paard met een oog, ouwd synde 14 jaar, een plaas die ik gehad heeft en hy's ook nog op myn naam, genaamd “Klaren Stroom”. Die heb ik uyt noot moeten verkopen”, that his cattle had been stolen, that he had “geen mond vol kost”, and that he was “oud, sat van dagen en vol onrust”.
