About Graf Johann Jakob Hamilton
GRAF JOHANN JAKOB VON HAMILTON (aka COUNT JAMES JOHN HAMILTON)
Count John James Hamilton was the son of Sir Alexander Hamilton (c. 1613 † 1665/69) of Holborn near London of the Scottish family of the Earls of Hamilton-Abercorn and (∞ c. 1634) Lady Elizabeth Bedingfield of Oxburgh (c. 1610; † 1683) of Redlingfield, Suffolk. Both families had overwhelmingly supported the Catholic House of Stuart against the Protestant House of Tudor. His father was great-grandson of James Hamilton, Duke of Châtellerault († 1575), George Seton, 7th Lord Seton (1531–1586) and Robert Boyd, 5th Lord Boyd († 1590), his mother was a great-granddaughter of Sir Henry Bedingfeld (1509–1583), who guarded Elizabeth I as Constable of the Tower of London during her captivity, and a great-granddaughter of the anti-Elizabethan conspirator Anthony Fortescue († after 1608), Marshal of Ireland.
