!FROM! BRUNSWYK - GERMANY SON OF MATTHIAS A WAGON MAKER FROM FORST IN NIEDERLAUSITZ; BRANDENBURG HE CAME TO S A 1734 WAGON MAKER IN THE SERVICE OF THE DUTCH EAST INDIA CO. HE LEFT FOR BATAVIA IN 1743 AND PROBABLY DIED IN THE EAST HE IS ALSO KNOWN AS JAN BARTEL HERTZOG.


HERTZOG JOHANN BERTHOLD (S). - Brunswick. Wagonmaker 1734-35, loaned as wagonmaker to Harmen Jansz of Elburg 7.12.1735-13.6.1736, back in Comp.'s service till 1742, b.1743. ~ 30.12.1736 Anna Maria Roos. 5 children. In 1743 he got permission to go to Batavia with his five year old son, because he could not continue his trade as wagonmaker for want of wood. (GMR 1734-35, 1737-42; CJ 1136: 93; Rq. 1743: 16; Res. of 10.12.1743; G.R. nr. 179.)
