HASSE JOHANN. - Brunswick. Arr. 1751 as so., field-guard 1751, so. 1752, loaned 8.8.1752 as silversmith to Anna Dorothea v. d. Berg, wid. Matthias Lotter (q.v.), whom he married 26.11.1752. One daughter, Elsabe Magdalena (1.7.1753) ~ Abraham Duvinage (q.v.). H. became burgher in 1753 and took over the silversmith business of Matthias Lotter. Works of Hasse have been preserved, e.g. a baptismal bowl in the Groote Kerk. (See M. Morrison, “The Silversmiths and Goldsmiths of the Cape of Good Hope,” Johannesburg 1936.) Hasse died 1779.
