About Johann Karl Kress

A Patriot of the American Revolution for PENNSYLVANIA with the rank of PRIVATE. DAR Ancestor # A067496

At and after immigration to America in 1752 Johann Karl used the last name of Gress as did his descendants but his brothers who immigrated with him used Cress and Kress. It seems that Kress was used by previous generations in Germany.

Came from Steinau on the road in Hesse-Nassau, Germany to Philadelphia, British colony of Pennsylvania on the ship Neptune arriving on 4 Oct. 1752. He traveled with his brothers Johannas, Johann Nicholaus Heinrich and Phillipp.

Fought in the American Revolution as a private in the 5th company, 4th battalion, Northampton company of Pennsylvania militia using the last name of Charles Kress
