Bio
Jesse LaBar, of Slatington, was born in Northmpton County, ov 29, 1835, son of George R. LaBar, who is now a resident of Northampton county, having attained the good old age of 90. During his active years he lived in Monroe Co., near Stroudsburg. His father, who bore the christian name of Henry, was also a native of this county, and passed from the scences of labor in 1862, having reached advanced years, being at the time of his death his 95th year. The LaBar family have for many generations been prominent in history and development of this region, having emigrated to the Keystone State from France, of which county they were originally natives. The mother of Jesse, also a native of this county, bore the maiden name of Mary Long, her father being Major Long.
Jesse, a Civil war vet, 28th PA Inf. In Jan 1856, he maried Permila Showeriskey, she was born in Reading.

Daniel Labar, above mentioned, and an elder brother named Abraham, were sons of Daniel, and grandsons of Abraham Labar, who with his brothers, Peter and Charles, came to this county about 1730. Abraham, the brother of Daniel, first above-named, entered the army of the Rev. He was a major before the date of July 25, 1776, and appointed Col. in the spring of 1777.
Daniel Labar, father of Col. Abraham and Daniel, owned the property where the Water Gap Station of the Delware, Lackawanna and Wester Railroad is located.
The late A. B. Burell, in his "Memoirs of George Labar, the Centenarian: says that Abram Labar walled up the spring near the present residence of Richard Wilson, and that he lived there in 1741. Mr. Burrell probably meant Daniel, the father of Col. Abraham and Daniel.
Daniel Labar, the last named, the younger brother of Col. Abraham, was born in 1763. He married Elizabeth Chambers in 1786. His brothers and sisters are as follows.

Jacob La Bar, who married Rachel Smith, d/o Dr. Francis Joseph Smith., is the father of Mrs. Jeanette Hollinshead, widow of Stroud J. Hollinshead.
George La Bar, brother of Daniel and Jacob, above named, was the father of the late Judge Henry M. La Bar, George La Bar and Mrs. Dr. P.M Bush
J. Depue La Bar, The family represented by the subject, was one of the earliest to settle in Monroe Co. The name is of French origin and has been variously spelled La Barre, Le Barre and La Bar.

Stroud township- Charles Miller located at an early date upon a farm now owned by Lewis Drake. His children;
Lewis Draker was the grandson of Charles Miller.
Peter and James Hollinshead, both physicians came from North Carolina, and settled in Stroud.
James married Sarah, d/o Jacob Stroud, and had several children;
Dr. Peter married another daughter of Jacob Stroud.
Josephus Jacob Aerts came with Lafayette from France and joined the partriots during the Rev. He changed his name to Francis Joseph Smith. He married Elizabeth Brodhead. Children;
Mrs. Stroud Hollinshead, the daughter of Mr. LaBar, now resides in Stroudsburg.

Stroudsburg- Dr. Peter Hollinshead, born Feb 13, 1777, died May 15, 1827, read medicine in Phila. , and came with his brother, Dr. James, to Stroudsburg, where he married Ann Stroud, a d/o Col. Jacob Stroud.
Stroud Jacob Holllinshead, son of Dr. James. He married Feb 2, 1819 to Jeanette De Le Barre, born at Elmira, NY., May 3, 1808, d/o Jacob De Le Barre and Rachel Smith. Her maternal grandfather was Dr. Francis J. Smith, native of Brussels, whose true name was Josephus Jacobus Aertz, son of J. B. Aerts, Lord of Opdorp and Zimmerseele., and who changed his name for political resons in 1777. Dr Smith maried Elizabeth, d/o Garret and Jane (Davis) Brodhead, a representative of another old families of the Minisink.
Mrs. Jeanete Hollinshead is still one of the old resident of Strousburg, where she lived from over 60 years. Owing to the death of her mother when she was an infant, she was reared in Monroe Co by her great-grandmother Brodhead, and as at the present time she had great-grandchildren of her own, has had living communication with 7 generations of her maternal lineage. In the absence of a portrait of her husband, her own engraving will be found. Her children were:
