Believed to have been a younger brother of Johann Christian Wahl - seems to have settled in Cape Town and became English-speaking. This part of the family included the well-known optometrists.

He was also a soldier, arrived in SA (22 years after the first Wahl) in 1774 from Bad Wildungen near Hanover in Lower Saxony, Germany on board of the HELDERSTER as soldier. He took citizenship and married in the same year – 1780 - to Hillegonda van Dyk and they had seven children. He died in 1814.

Then there is a major gap in the records – perhaps missing out three or more generations - because there is no official documentation to prove the parentage of Ada’s great grandfather Daniel Hendrik Wahl. Some speculate that this gap arises due to the loose spelling of the day - some family members may have adopted different styles and spellings like Waal, de Wahl or de Waal etc. This is not that unusual and even Shakespeare signed his name with five different spellings!
