On 4 May 1896 a baby girl was born on a farm in Jagersfontein in the Orange Free State and was named Johanna Catharina Kruger. She was my grandmother and this is what I have been able to find out about her. It is information that I did not have until recently.
Her father was Johannes Cornelius Kruger born about 1861 and her mother was Adriana Sophia Elizabeth Kruger born van den Heever. (This name on the children’s baptismal certificates is spelt as van den Heefer). Adriana’s date of birth is also recorded as about 1861.
Johanna’s parents were married and living on a farm called Kruisfontein, in Jagersfontein, registered to ‘The Kruger Family’ in the District Fauresmith, in the Free State.
