Arr. 1715 as so., loaned as “tapperskneg” 1719-22, b. 1722, lessee of wine-licence, opened branch taps at Rondebosch and Mowbray. ~ (1) Elsje v. POSSIBLE FATHER

BECK (the latter repatriated with his family in 1737) is (as far as I know) with his brother BECK SV/PROG1 the only two Becks in South Africa around the time of the birth of Adriaan Johannes Beck van de Caap (probably in the early 1730's).

Johannes Zacharias Beck, fr. Langensalza; arr. 1713 in the Dutch Company's service, later innkeeper at Rondebosch and Mowbray. Marr. (1) Elsje van As; (2) 31.10.1728 Geertruyd Christina Blankenberg.

According to Bell the drawing was made from the arms on the seal of Reynier Beck, grandson of the above, 'a wellknown and respected notary'. He was bapt. Cape Town, 4.1.1769 and marr. 18.4.1790 Catharina Cloete.
