- Johannes Augustus, baptized July 6, 1721, Dutch Reformed Church Stellenbosch. Witnesses: Jacob Coetser and Sara van Wyk. He married Jacoba Greeff in 1754 and died around 1790. Johannes Augustus entered the service of the DEIC (VOC) in 1739, when he was eighteen, as an adelborst, with a monthly salary of 10 florins and was made assistant in 1745 at 24 florins. He applied for burger papers in 1753. By the 1770s, he had an estate near Riebeek Kasteel (a mountain in the Swartland named after Governor Jan van Riebeeck), where he was described as “a wealthy and generous host” by one of his visitors.
