As the grandson of the de Vries who was an original patentee in Tappan, by marrying Tryntje he married into a family line (Kuyper) that also was one of the original 16 holdersTappan Patent land. (see: Cornelius Kuyper and his brother John (Jan) Kuyper.

Who was the Catherine De Fres (sic) (De Vries) listed in 1800 as ' a free white family head residing in Clarkstown and owning two slaves' ? (Cohen p. 41-2) I will hypothetically add her as a second wife to John IV as his first wife died in 1793.
