About Johannes Eberhardt
Origins
Johannes Everhardt or Eberhard shows up in the immigration lists of the ill-fated Palatine flotilla that boarded in England on Christmas Day 1709 and arrived in April-June of 1710 in New York. He was accompanied by a wife Anna Catharina and an unnamed son at that time.
Genealogies which place him as coming from the Netherlands from families that settled Ontario are likely incorrect; the Palatines in this flotilla were Rhine Valley immigrants, for the most part, having been explicitly invited by the Hanoverian King of England, much to the dismay of his subjects.
Furthermore, I have found a DNA link between descendants of Pennsylvania Eberhards and descendants of Johannes. The parentage of both branches of the Eberhard family is currently conjecture, although the best claim to a place of origin is near Bern, Switzerland. This area is under active development.
