11 JUL 1680 in Alsace, Germany Death: ABT 1729 in Germany Note: The Fretz family were Mennonites, followers of Menno Simon, and of Germ an origin, possibly Swiss before that. Many Fretz families still reside in the province of Alsatia, which was annexed to France in 1648, but was under German dominion originally. Because of poor crops, Johannes was forced to sell his property in Hagenau, Alsace and moved to Ketterich where his youngest son, Jacob, had settled.


Area of Haguenau ,Alsace, was claimed back and forth between Germany and France, being on the border of both.
