He arrived at Philadelphia harbor Oct 9, 1749 aboard the ship Lydia with his wife and at least 5 children following his brothers Hans Heinrich and Peter Jacob Sr. Handwerk They had at least 7 children total.

Nov. 9, 1758 he purchased 57 acres of land in Heidelberg Twp. The Handwerks became a large family clan in Heidelberg and can be found in many historical documents.
