About Johannes (Hans) Jerolamon

(NY G&B, "Notes on Joralemon Family") Baptized in RDC at Bergen, NJ.

(NY G&B) Lived on Second River, now Belleville, Essex Co., NJ. No date of death because old graveyard at Kingsland, NJ, was sold to the B&O Railroad for a roundhouse and the tombstones mostly thrown into the Passaic River, no copies of the stones having been made. Marr. date on p. 126 of ch. rec. as John Jeratholomen. First two ch. bpt. at NY Dut. Ch., others at Second River.
(RJ) Gives marr. date as 16 Mar 1722.
(JKJ) From father's Bible: De 10 September A.D. 1697 is gebooren Yohannis Yoralemon, Zoone van Yacob Yoralemon.
He was born 10 (Bible), 19 (church) Sep at Bergen (now Jersey City) bpt. 4 Oct 1697 (NYC & Bergen), witnesses Cornelis Claesen and Annetje Cornelis, widow of the late Claes Janse. He was named for his paternal grandfather.
Married 6 Mar 1722 (Banns 26 Feb 1722) in NYC Dutch Church. Two oldest children's baptisms recorded in NYC, others at Second River (where church records began in 1727.
A house belonging to John Joralemon which was on the NYC tax roll 10 Feb 1730, may have referred to him. An island and riverbed in the Passaic River was conveyed to Johannes Joralemon by deed from East Jersey proprietors. On 24 Nov 1737 he signed an agreement with Hendrick Spier at Bergen for the operation of a mill. The mill was at the foot of what is now Mulberry St. in Passaic. Perhaps this is in same mill mentioned in the New York Mercury, 28 June 1756, as "near the falls of the Passaic."
Johannes and Margrietje were living 20 May 1750 when she witnessed the baptism of a granddaughter at Second River. He was living 26 Mar 1757 when named in his father's will. Perhaps he was living in 1765 when, with his brother Derrick, 46.39 acres was purchased by John Joralemon in Morris Co., NJ (S5(c)260), unless this refers to his son. John sold his half interest 7 Aug 1769.
