Grand parents Stephanus Jacobus Daniel Nel & Martha Sophia de Lange. Parents Johannes Hendrick Adriaan Nel & Rachel Jacomina Johanna Potgieter. Only records of Johannes are Methodist and Anglican Albany Parish baptisms of 3 of his children, which place him among a large 'clan' of Methodist Nels along the newly-resettled Fish River (Albany district = Grahamstown). Probably a large extended family. There is no sign of him in Heese & Lombard's SA Genealogie which seems to be almost exclusively derived from admittedly superior NG(Dutch Reformed) church records. His wife's maiden name is not mentioned as Methodists & Anglicans seemed to have no interest in them. NGK records almost invariably indicate a wife's maiden name, perhaps because so many spouses were cousins, surprisingly often with the same surname. Recently various death notices surfaced on Familysearch to clear up some of the confusion. Johannes Hendrick junior's move to the Waterberg,Transvaal added to the mystery.
