• This record is based on information from my Aunt, Hilda Wallace Keyte, who remembers this elder uncle as being one of her grandfather's children from his first marriage.
• He was known in the family as Hansie.
• According to Anton Nell, the son of Hansie's half-brother, Joseph Benjamin Nell, he was a boemelaar (vagabond/hobo), but everyone apparently loved him as he was good-natured and never lied (from a telephonic conversation with Anton Nell, March 2014).
• In subsequent communications with Anton Nell (May 2016), he says his older brother Boetie remembers their father talking about a much older half brother called Hans van Tonder, which means that this individual may have been a child from a previous relationship or marriage of Jacobus Hendrik Louw Nell's first wife, Anna Maria van Tonder.
• There is currently no documentary evidence to prove his ancestry either way and this record requires further research.
