Johannes Kaufman, Jr

The Kauffmans are believed to have originally settled in the region of Berks County, Pennsylvania, where both Johannes Kauffmans, father and son, worked as stone masons and built dwellings and churches in the area. The Kauffmans were from Palatinate part of Germany.

The union of Johannes and Catherine Beck (wife 3) gave 9 children, Henry 1777, Elizabeth Margaret 1778, Philip Henrich 1781, Mary 1783, Johan Michael 1784, Christian 1786, Magdalena 1788, Christina 1793, Frederick 1794. . Johannes Kauffman Jr. was the first member of the family known to have lived in Frederick, Maryland, though the exact date is unknown. He purchased property in Frederick in 1778, on the northeast corner of Fifth Street and Middle Alley, but it is believed that he owned property in the area long before that time. It is assumed that he lived in Frederick with his first wife, Joanna Bruhl Kauffman d. 1775. The family were prominent members of the Evangelical Lutheran Church. There isn't any record connecting a wife by the name of "Huber" with Johannes Kaufman Jr. We believe this to be a connection error via the Geni service and have not be able to remove the link.
