About Johannes "Hanse/John" Keagy

Arrived in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1715. According to Franklin Keagy, compiler of "A History of the Kagy Relationsip in America", was married Rebecca Patterson, daughter of James and Susannah, in 1716. Further research has shown that Hanse was married instead to an Anna Kendig. Franklin Keagy may have fallen prey to Victorian ideas of respectability in connecting his lineage to a prominent family from early Pennsylvania history.

Will

WILL OF JOHN RUDOLPH KEAGY, AKA HANS RUDOLPH KÄGY
I, John Keagy, in the County of Lancaster, and the Province of Pennsylvania, Township of Conestoga, being very sick and weak in body but of perfect mind and memory, thanks be unto God for it, do make this my Last Will and Testament and desire that it may be received by all as such.

He shall keep a cow for her and give her her choice of the cows. He ever shall keep a mare for her during the term. He shall give her four apple trees every year bearing fruit at her own choice and give her half an acre of ground for flax and half for garden.

Item: I give and bequeath unto my son Henry Keagy, two hundred acres of land to him, his heirs, and his assigns for every joining. The above stated lands to be valued by our Elders as aforesaid, and he is to pay accordingly within four years after he shall settle upon and occupy the same.

First Keagy in America

Source: http://trees.ancestry.com/pt/person.aspx?tid=404387&pid=-2086305475

In this tree, Johannes Rudolph Keagy had as a spouse Rebecca Patterson, daughter of James Patterson and Susannah Howard Patterson Ewing Connolly. The below excerpt from the will of James Patterson, who died in 1735, indicates that his three daughters, including Rebecca, are under 21 years of age and as yet unmarried. This contradicts the fact of Johannes Keagy having been married to this Rebecca Patterson. However, there was a sister of James Patterson, also named Rebecca. It is to her that I have linked Johannes, although I am still in need of documentary evidence.

Thirdly I give & Bequeath to Each of my Daughters Sarah
Susanah & Rebecka one Hundred Pounds to be paid to Each & Every of them on the Day of their Marriage after they arive at the Age of Sixteen Years or Else after they arive at the age of Twenty one Years.
