The foreign roots of this family were at 6930 Eberbach (18 km. n.w. of Mosbach; Chbks. begin 1615, Ref.). "The emigrant Johannes1 Menges was the s/o Leonhardt and Elisabetha Menges and b. 24 June 1674. Johannes1 md. Susanna (--), who d. 24 Aug 1702, aged 20 and 3/4 yrs. old, after suffering from sonsumption for 1/2 a yr. The honourable Hans menges, citizen and carpenter here and widower, md. (2nd) 28 Nov 1702 Maria Eva, d/o the also honourable Valentin Scholch - citizen and raftsman here. Maria Eva, d/o of Valentin Schelche and wife Anna Margrita, was b. 3 Feb 1678 - sp,: Eva - w/o Hans Phil. Bus, citizen and raftsman.Hanns Valentin Schelche, s/o George Schelch - citizen and raftsman, md. Anna Margaretha, single d/o of the late Hans Stumpf - citizen and raftsman here, 8 May 1677. John Menges aged 35, his wife, and sons aged 9, 3, and 1/4, Ref., were in England in the 3rd arrivals of 1709 (London Lists)." "Johannes Menges made his initial appearance on the Hunter Lists 1 July 1710 with 3 pers. over 10 yrs. and 2 under 10. The household showed 3 over 10 and 1 under 10 yrs. 31 Dec 1710, 3 over 10 on March 1711, 2 pers. over 10 yrs. and 1 under 10 on 25 March 1712, and 3 over 10 yrs. of age on 24 June 1712. Johanis Menges was nat. 8 and 9 Sept 1715 (kingston Nats.). Johannis Mingas was taxed 15 pounds in Kingston in 1718/10 and 1720/21 (Ulster Co. Tax Lists). The Kingston Trustees Records mention Johannis Minges in Book I, Part B, pp. 99 - 101, and Book I, Part C, pp. 5 & 6. John Mings was in the Company of the Wall-a-kill in the Ulster Co. Militia in 1738 (Report of the State Historian, Vol. I, p. 609). Johannes Mingus was said to have built a grist mill in the old village of Montgomery and later sold the 200 acres of land upon which the village of Montgomery was built (History of Orange Co., by Russell Headly, p. 311, per James L. Powell). The 3rd w/o Johannes1 Menges was Anna Eva Busch (HJ). She was bpt. Dominica, p. Trin. 18: 686 at 5455 Rengsdorf; her parents were the Herman Busch, s/o Bartholomel Busch of Heinsen in the State of Hanover, and Elizabetha, d/o the late Wilhelm Schlemer of Melsbach, who md. at Rengsdorf Dom. v. p.t.: 1679/80. Herman Busch aged 54 with a son aged 4 and a daughter aged 24, Luth., husbandman and vinedresser, was in the 3rd arrivals at London amongst all the other Neuweid area of Palatines in 1709 (London Lists: his wife (Maria) Elisabetha had d. the 1st week of Nov 1698 at Rengsdorf. The child of Johannes Menges and his 1st wife Susanna was: Hieronymus. By his 2nd wife Maria Eva were: Maria Barbara, Susanna, Johann Leonhardt and Johann Michael. By his 3rd wife Anna Eva Busch were Anna (sometimes called Anna Veronica), Anna Elisabetha, Gertraud, and Christian."
