About Johannes Daniel Nonnemacher
One of the first nine people to arrive in Allentown. Built his home at 224 Lehigh St., the southeast corner of Lawrence St. in 1762. It was demolished in 1973 when it was 211 years old. Daniel was paid 30 pounds by Col. Hooper for the use of his house which was used as a hospital during the Rev. War. On October 10, 1763 Daniel signed a petition of Northampton Town (as Allentown was called then) sent to the Honorable James Hambleton, Esqr. Lieutenant Governeur and Commander in Chief of the Province of Penna, Newcastle Center and Saxon Delaware asking for 50 guns, 100 pounds of powder, 400 pounds of lead, and 150 stands for the guns, to defend themselves against the indians. Daniel was a member of Christ Reformed Church of Indian Creek (Indianfield) Montgomery County, PA. In his will of February 10, 1783 signed by Henry and Jacob Nunnemaker, he left his heirs 8265.1.8 Continental money and 2-1-0 hard money. A pound was worth $50 in 1775 and a good horse sold for 20 pounds or $1000. It is not known how many children he had, but it is believed he had 5 sons plus daughters.
